Seasons at Lake Mead

 

Summer (June, July, August, September):

The summer season of June, July, August, and September is the peak season and hottest in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The daytime high temperatures range from 92-107 degrees, while nighttime low air temperatures range 67-78 degrees. Lake Mead water temperatures range from 76-88 degrees. The monsoon season does effect Lake Mead during the months of July and August. This means an increased risk of summertime thunderstorms in the afternoon and evenings.


Fall (October and November):

The fall season of October and November are said to be the best months to visit Lake Mead. Summer heat is now gone and the cooler fall season is setting in. Winds are generally light and comfortable. Daytime high air temperatures range from 72-90 degrees. Low air temperatures range from 50-65 degrees. Water temperatures range from 70-83 degrees. October and November are great months to houseboat and relax on Lake Mead with very little boat traffic even on the weekends. Most marinas now have switched to their winter off-season hours, which generally mean their services (food/fuel) are available from 8-5 daily.


Winter (December, January, February):

The winter months of December, January, and February are the coldest in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The daytime high air temperatures range from 48-62 degrees. The nighttime low air temps range in the chilly 30-42 degree range. Water temperatures around the lake ranges from 48-58 degrees. Other than a few fishermen, lake activity is minimal even on weekends. The marinas are all operating on their winter off-season schedules; food/fuel are available from 8-5 daily.  Most popular activity this time of the year is hiking around the lake since daytime air temperatures are very comfortable.


Spring (March, April, May):

The spring season of March, April, and May is an ideal time to visit the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The daytime high air temperatures range from 68-88 degrees, while nighttime low air temperatures range 42-58 degrees. Water temperatures range from 58-74 degrees. Activity in March and April are minimal, but once you get into the month of May, boat traffic on the lake increases starting with the Labor Day Holiday weekend. The marinas are still operating on their off-season schedules, (food/fuel) are available from 8-5 daily. Boating, fishing, and hiking are popular this time of year.
