Pennzoil Ultra

Pennzoil Ultra first came to light on January 20, 2010, on an oil forum I used to post on. A poster from Anchorage, Alaska, posted that he found pallets of the oil in the back warehouse of a Wal-Mart, but it wasn’t on the shelves yet. He posted asking if this was a new oil. The posters on the oil forum started researching the oil and over the next few weeks posters started seeing it on the shelves inside Wal-Marts across the country. Five (5) quart jugs are $28 while one (1) quart bottles are $6.97.

Pennzoil Ultra comes in three grades: 5W-20, 5W-30, and 10W-30. The European formula comes in 5W-30, 5W-40, and 10W-60.

Shell’s advertising department had a field day with the oil. “Hyper Cleansing Technology”, “Ultra Class Synthetic”, “Nothing Keeps Your Engine Closer To Factory Clean”, cleans 35% more sludge than their next best oil (Pennzoil Platinum), and is the factory fill on the new Ferraris.

The virgin oil analysis (VOA) of Pennzoil Ultra 5W-20 has been posted on the oil forums as of February 11, 2010. The new Ultra looks promising with a TBN of 13. This could be the best over the counter oil ever made. The used oil analysis (UOA) will tell a lot about this oil once they start coming in. The oil analysis is located below.
